The professional team at Oldfield Smith & Co have just secured a significant reduction in business rates for one of our retail clients based in central Lewes.
The instruction was handled by Paul White MRICS, one of the Chartered Surveyors working for the practice from our Uckfield office. Paul commented “although the new appeal system is complex and requires much more preliminary work, there remains scope to correct errors and inaccuracies. I am genuinely pleased to have been able to secure a large reduction for our client in this matter.”
Following publication of the 2017 rating list, changes have been made to the appeals process. The previous right to appeal has been replaced with a 3 stage approach involving “check”, “challenge” and “appeal”, with each stage having to be completed before progressing to the next.
Oldfield Smith & Co’s Head of Professional Services, Bernard Smith FRICS said “there is still scope to secure meaningful reductions in liability for business rates and the tax remains a substantial cost to many businesses. Our team have the experience and skills to identify opportunities to reduce those costs and to provide competent, professional assistance.”
Oldfield Smith & Co offer a FREE initial consultation to businesses concerned about their liability for business rates.
