Oldfield Smith attend Crowborough Mayor’s lunch in support of Cancer Research

10th April 2019

Oldfield Smith & Co were delighted to support the Crowborough Mayor’s lunch today at Crowborough Beacon Golf Club.  Organised by our good friends at Acorns for Cancer Research UK, our Director and Head of Professional Services, Bernard Smith and our Financial Controller Elizabeth Douglas-Smith attended, with the event raising over £1,400 to support pioneering research into diagnosis and treatments for this terrible disease.

After lunch, guests were given an update on research projects by Dr Melanie Flint of the Cancer Research unit at the University of Brighton.  Dr Flint explained a little about the work she is doing to study the interaction of stress on cancer and how the two are linked.  She also spoke of the exciting developments in the field of immunotherapy, which is showing great promise as a cancer treatment.

Statistics say that one in two people will suffer from cancer at some point in their lives and events like this provide much needed funds to continue the fight against Cancer in all its forms.  Over the years we have had the privilege of sponsoring and attending many events organised by Acorns, who are a small group of incredibly dedicated and enthusiastic fundraisers.  To find out about their next project and forthcoming events, please do take a look at their Facebook page by clicking >>here<<
