Cancer Research UK Summer Lunch raises £9,000

The Summer Lunch organised by the Crowborough committee of Cancer Research UK (CRUK), which took place on Wednesday 4 June at the East Sussex National Hotel, near Uckfield, raised £9000 for the charity. The event was attended by 260 people and supported by 22 corporate sponsors.

CROPPEDThe Summer Lunch began with a Welcome Drink sponsored by the Uckfield-based accountancy firm, Simmons Gainsford. Western Provident Association (WPA) sponsored the speaker, while Dawson Hart Solicitors was the coffee sponsor. The tables were decorated with balloons provided by Yes Promo Products; David Bartholomew Photographer took shots on the day; EM Communications provided audio-visual expertise; and The Marketing Eye offered PR and marketing support. Sponsor Uckfield FM also supported the event by running some Cancer Research UK adverts on air.

The Summer Lunch was also sponsored by TR Fastenings, Swindells, Handelsbanken, TimelessTime, Team4 Solutions, Sussex Medical Services, The Health Insurance Specialists, Lawson Commercial, Rix & Kay, The Well House Veterinary Clinic, Tester & Jones, Simmons Gainsford Financial Services, Addagrip, and Oldfield Smith.

20140604_150021Guests at the Summer Lunch enjoyed a talk by scientist Dr Jessica Downs, who is working at Cancer Research UK’s Brighton labs at the University of Sussex. She provided guests with an informative and easy-to-understand overview of her work and there were plenty of questions.

Thanks to Shirley Price at Yes Promo Products, Sussex County Cricket Club donated a signed cricket bat to the event. This was auctioned on the day and raised £220.

In addition to support from sponsors, guests also took part in a raffle, which included prizes kindly donated by East Sussex National Hotel, Taywell and Cross Country Stores in Crowborough, among others.

“Thank you to everyone who made the Summer Lunch such a great occasion – sponsors, supporters and guests,” said Philip Ronan, chairman of the Crowborough volunteer committee of Cancer Research UK. “It really couldn’t have gone better.”
