Extensive refurbishment nears completion in Kent

26th June 2021

Following a devastating fire in May last year, Oldfield Smith & Co were appointed to provide technical and project management services to a block of retail and residential premises on the Isle of Sheppey.

The fire was caused by a defective electrical appliance and required the attendance of 6 fire engines and the use of breathing apparatus to bring the blaze under control.

Working with the building owners, occupiers and insurers, our professional services department have specified repairs, obtained tenders, overseen health and safety aspects and monitored the work at each stage.  We are pleased to say that the work is now substantially complete and the shop will be reopening shortly.  The first floor flat which was also badly damaged is undergoing final preparations for hand-over and re-occupation.

The building surveying team at Oldfield Smith & Co have the knowledge and technical skills to handle repair and refurbishment works from routine redecoration to resolving complex building defects.  Our staff have formal health and safety qualifications and our Chartered Surveyors have over 35 years of post qualification experience between them.  If you have a building issue you would like to discuss, do get in touch with our Head of Professional service, Bernard Smith FRICS on 019825 762222.  We offer a free initial consultation and a clear, competitive pricing structure for confirmed instructions.

We are pleased to have been able to have been able to assist with the rebuilding of both the building and the business which depends on it and are now looking forward to the shop re-opening to the public in the very near future.
