Oldfield Smith & Co UAV team complete Gatwick survey work

7th June 2021

The UAV team at Oldfield Smith & Co have recently completed an aerial survey instruction in Lowfield Heath, just to the south of the runway at Gatwick Airport.  This site lies in the Gatwick Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ) and in order to legally fly any form of UAV , formal consent from the Airport operators and Air Traffic Control are required.

Oldfield Smith & Co hold an Operational Authorisation from the CAA and were able to obtain consent to fly in this sensitive area by demonstrating that we properly risk assess our work and comply with the highest standards of practice.  On this occasion we equipped our drone with a navigation strobe and had additional staff on site to act as spotters during the flight.  We were able to capture some amazing still images and video, including the clip below which highlights the proximity to the airport perimeter.

Our UAV team offer aerial surveys and roof inspections across the region and beyond, with all work being completed by qualified Surveyors to ensure data is relevant and comprehensive.  UAV surveys offer huge savings in both cost and time over conventional access arrangements as well as being intrinsically safer and less disruptive.  Whatever your aerial needs, give our friendly team a call on 01825 762222 to see how we can help.
